Exploring Faith

What we believe

Methodists have always been clear that no-one is beyond the reach of God's love. Salvation is there for everyone who turns to God, and not just for a chosen few.

Why do we need salvation?

As human beings we find ourselves part of an unjust, sinful and violent world, which we may feel individually helpless to change.
We may feel driven by urges such as anger, lust or greed, that we wish did not control us.
We may have personalities which are difficult to manage, for instance being prone to despair.
We may be enduring poverty and hardship.
The demands of modern life leave many of us stressed and overloaded, or isolated and feeling useless.
Loss, fear, grief or guilt may be weighing us down. We need salvation.

What do Christians believe?

Jesus preached the Gospel - the good news of the Kingdom of God. Through Jesus' death on the cross, and his resurrection, Christians believe that God has broken the power of all that is evil, in the world and in ourselves. If we accept forgiveness and liberation, and are willing to be open to the Holy Spirit, God can enable us to resist evil and to live life to the full.

Living Life to the Full

Living as a Christian means much more than going to church. It involves a life-long journey to follow in Jesus' steps.  This will mean trying to apply what we know of God through Jesus to all the different aspects of our life, and make choices in life based on this rather than just our self-interest.  We aim stand on the truth of the Bible and live in the assuarance of salvation and in the power of God's Spirit.  Check out our webpages if you want to know more about living the life.

Discipleship

If you want to deepen your Christian faith then you need to be connecting to other Christians and have resources available that will help you.  Our staff are happy to meet with you about the different ways we can assist you in your faith journey.  Just contact Darren who will be delighted to chat through how we can help.

Small Groups

Being a member of a small group is so important to help and support you in your faith and it is a place where you can share, participate and contribute to the group and the wider life of the church.  A small group meets in the church on Monday evenings.  Contact Darren for more information.

Online Resources

There are many great online devotionals, bible studies and discipleship tools available to help with your faith journey and to encourage your spiritual engagement.

WordLive allows you to step into a multi-media Bible reading experience and deepen your relationship with God.  WordLive offers a fantastic range of creative approaches you can follow to engage with God’s Word.  WordLive is designed to be intuitive and simple.  Each day when you log on you will be prompted to pray and then read the Bible.  The next step is up to you.

A Word in Time is a daily Bible study using the readings set in the Methodist Prayer Handbook 2007/8, available in audio also. It is specifically designed to be a tool which readers can use to make sense of the Bible themselves.  Each page features a Bible reading with explanations, commentary, thoughts and questions, which are designed to help and empower the reader to apply the Bible to their own life and the social and political context in which they live, aiming to help put the Bible back where it belongs - at the centre of our daily lives.

Foundations21 Is a new online way of doing discipleship.
Recognising that everyone is different, Foundations21 enables you to explore discipleship in a way that suits your lifestyle and learning style.
